Jane M Murdock, the artist half of Wylde Oake Artistry, seeks to explore and question our human perception of the fungal kingdom through creating positive human-fungal connectivity and a sense of our place within the wider natural world. She finds herself increasingly exploring the physical, the emotional and latterly a psychological approach with work currently exploring a phenomenological pathway through a consideration of her own conscious experiences.
Jane seeks to consider, within either simplistic botanical renditions of fungal subjects or more complex conceptual pieces, our human/non-human self/others interconnectivity and intra-actions within the spaces in which we cohabit and co-exist albeit within a Chtulucene ,or even perhaps Mycocenic, speculative future in which we can become companion species and protectors of, rather than antagonists towards, the fungal kingdom and their wider ecosystems,
The resulting intricately worked soft pastel/pastel pencil botanical representations of fungal forms (mushrooms) reflect upon how they are a vital living part of, woodland or urban ecosystems. Memories of sensorial experiences, observation of social media commentary and ongoing theoretical research further results in the rendering of exploratory and deeply personal conceptual imagery that explores, and even blurs, the boundaries between nature and our human bodies.
